Brother 1034DX Vs 1034D Comparison in Detail
As far as entry level home sergers are concerned, I would rate Brother 1034D as one of the best. 1034D appealed to sewers mainly because of its features, stitch quality and affordability. 1034D has been in the market for a while, so Brother has decided to release a new version namely 1034DX. Even though the features remain the same, it is not a cosmetic update at all. Brother has put some thought into it and has come up with some major design changes. This makes the comparison even more interesting.
Brother 1034DX Vs 1034D - Major Feature Differences
Even though the model numbers are similar, you can almost call 1034DX a machine built from the scratch. From a distance, the designs may look similar but once you look closely the differences begin to surface one by one. The main difference is in the positioning of controls and knobs.
Position of Controls
On Brother 1034DX the control dials for stitch length and differential feed are on the right hand side of the serger, whereas on 1034D they are on the left hand side. The stitch width adjustment dial on 1034DX is near the trim trap, whereas on 1034D it is on the left hand side of the machine. The position of the knife lever is also different.
Other Points
The features remain the same. Both are two needle 3/4 thread sergers. Both come with differential feed, 1,300 stitches/min motor, color-coded threading, trim trap and good number of stitch options.
The stitch quality on both sergers are excellent. Both can perform well on a variety of fabrics. The stitch quality on thick fabrics like denim is quite good on both sergers. In a nutshell, Brother 1034DX ticks all the check boxes that 1034D covered.
Editor comment
It is all about ergonomics. I wouldn't say that the ergonomics of 1034DX is better than 1034D, because we humans are good at adaptation and we will easily get used to a particular way of doing things, once we repeat the same task couple of times. I have been using Brother 1034D for a long period of time and I had no trouble with its ergonomics. However, when I tried my hands on 1034DX for the first time, I found it slightly easier to use the controls and knobs. This was probably because of the fact that I am a right-handed person. I could feel an instant connection with 1034DX, because it gave me the option to control the knobs with my predominant right hand.
Even after all these years, Brother 1034D is still the benchmark as far as entry level home sergers are concerned. I think 1034DX has done justice to its predecessor in all departments.
