The basic design of both 1634D and 1034D are the same. If you compare feature by feature, both machines are identical. The most notable difference from the outside is the color of the tension dials. Yes, the tension dials on Brother 1034D is of different colors, whereas on 1634D they are all of the same color. The most important thing to note is that, you should not confuse this with color-coded lay-in threading system. Some people have a misperception that Brother 1634D does not have color-coded threading system. It is not true. Like 1034D, 1634D also comes with color-coded lay-in threading system. It is just that, on 1634D all tension dials are of same color and on 1034D, they are of different colors. That's it.
So practically, you are looking at identical sergers.
