Brother 2340CV Vs Janome Cover Pro 1000CPX Comparison In Detail

Whenever you search for a cover stitch machine, you are bound to come across Brother 2340CV and Janome 1000CPX. It is not because they are the only cover stitch machines in US, it is because of the quality they offer. 2340CV has always been in the mind of budget sewers, whereas 1000CPX impressed sewers with good build and stitch quality. Since these two machines come with similar features, it will be very difficult to compare feature wise. This makes the comparison even more challenging for me.

Brother 2340CV Vs Janome 1000CPX - Major Feature Differences

Both come with similar features like differential feed, color coded threading, adjustable presser foot pressure etc. However, there are some feature differences, if you can look closely.

Stitch Types

Stitch types available on Janome 1000CPX are

•    Triple cover stitch
•    Cover stitch (Narrow and wide)
•    Chain stitch

Stitch types on Brother 2340CV are

•    Tri-cover stitch (3 needles 4 threads cover stitch)
•    2 needle 3 threads cover stitch
•    Chain stitch (1 needle 2 threads double chain stitch)

Differential Feed Ratio

While both Brother 2340CV and Janome 1000CPX come with differential feed, there is a slight difference in the adjustment ratio. 2340CV has differential feed ratio of 0.7 - 2.0, whereas 1000CPX has a ratio of 0.5 - 2.25. While the ratio of 0.7 - 2.0 on 2340CV will be enough in most cases, the extra range on 1000CPX will be an added advantage.

Stitch Length

While the maximum stitch length available on both machines stays at 4mm, the Janome machine has a minimum stitch length of 1mm compared to the 2mm minimum stitch length of the Brother machine.

Free Arm

Free arm is one feature that is absolutely a blessing while sewing tubular areas like cuffs and sleeves. Janome 1000CPX comes with free arm, which can be accessed by removing the extension table. Brother 2340CV does not have free arm.

Motor Speed

Brother 2340CV has a speed advantage. It can deliver a maximum of 1,100 stitches/min. While Janome 1000CPX has a maximum speed of 1,000 stitches/min.

Tension Release

Brother 2340CV has a dedicated tension release button, whereas on Janome 1000CPX tension is released when the presser foot lifter is raised.

Machine Weight

Brother 2340CV is 4lbs lighter in comparison with Janome 1000CPX. This adds to the portability of the machine.

Editor comment

The work space available on Janome 1000CPX is slightly larger than Brother 2340CV. Stitch quality wise, both cover stitch machines are right up there with best. There is very little to choose between them in terms of stitch quality and ease of use. So the decision basically comes down to the budget and some slight difference in features which might be important for some.
