Brother SE1800 Vs PE770 Comparison In Detail

Brother has so many embroidery machine models. They also have some quality sewing and embroidery combo machines like the Brother SE400. The thing I love about combo machines is that, you can own a sewing and embroidery machine all in one and that too at a low investment compared to buying an embroidery machine and a sewing machine separately.. This was the USP of SE400, but it had something missing. SE400 had an embroidery area of 4" x 4", which was not really ideal for large projects. This is where Brother SE1800 stepped in. With a large embroidery area of 5" x 7" combined with advanced sewing features, SE1800 hit the market with a bang. In simple words, SE1800 has all the embroidery features of PE770 plus some stunning regular sewing features and some extra accessories. Now let us compare SE1800 and PE770.

Brother SE1800 Vs PE770 - Major Feature Differences

From a distance both machines look very similar. But to be honest, there are quite a lot of feature differences between the two. As I have said earlier, PE770 is an embroidery only machine, whereas SE1800 is a sewing and embroidery combo machine. So the later is bound to have some extra features. Let us have a look.

LCD Screen

Brother SE1800 has a slightly larger touch screen in comparison with PE770. SE1800's screen measures 3" x 1.6" and PE770 has 2.7" x 1.4". A larger screen is always better, as you can see and edit the settings better. Both have backlit screens but the screen brightness is adjustable on SE1800, which is not the case with PE770.

Even though both Brother SE1800 and PE770 has an embroidery area of 5" x 7", the former comes with two hoops 5" x 7" and 5" x 12". The purpose of 5" x 12" hoop is to combine designs with less rehooping. PE770 comes with a single 5" x 7" hoop.

Adjustable Design Icon Size Setting

SE1800 has adjustable design icon size setting, but PE770 does not have this feature.

SE1800 comes with an included hard cover, while PE770 comes with a soft dust cover.

Sewing Features

Being an embroidery only machine, Brother PE770 is going to miss out on all the features that I am going to discuss in this section. These features are available on SE1800 only,

Built-in Stitches: SE1800 has 184 built-in sewing stitches including 10 one-step buttonholes. Even better thing is that SE1800 has My Custom Stitch feature, which lets you create your own stitches and save it in the built-in memory. I absolutely love this feature. It is a feature that you won't find on entry level machines, it is available on premium machines only.

Sewing Speed : SE1800 can do regular sewing at a maximum speed of 850 stitches/min. It also has a speed control slider to control the sewing speed without using the foot pedal. The embroidery speed on both SE1800 and PE770 are identical (650 stitches/min).

Knee Lifter : SE1800 comes with a knee lifter which can be used to raise and lower presser foot without taking your hands off the fabric.

Sideways Sewing : This is another premium feature I love on SE1800. This feature gives you the freedom to sew sideways instead of just forward and backward (that's what we are used to). The feed dogs on this machine allow you to sew sideways and it is a blessing while sewing tight corners. For example, if you are sewing something like a square patch, you don't need to rotate your fabric.

Presser Foot Pressure : The presser foot pressure is adjustable on SE1800. It is not adjustable on PE770.

Sewing Accessories : SE1800 comes with 11 sewing feet.

Editor comment

Once you know the feature differences between Brother SE1800 and PE770, you will realize one thing. You can't really compare these two machines, because they belong to entirely different categories. One thing I can say is that the stitch quality on both machines are excellent and they are very easy to use. Even though SE1800 is much more advanced than PE770, it still is very easy to use. There are so many YouTube video tutorials which will help you use advanced features like My Custom Stitch and Sideways sewing.
