Brother SE600 Vs SE400 Comparison In Detail

Whenever I think of sewing and embroidery combo machines, the first one that will come to my mind is Brother SE400. It is one machine that really made me say 'wow!'. Its stitch quality, ease of use, features and affordability made it an absolute King. It has been on the top charts for quite some time now. It is a champion machine. Now Brother has come up with SE600, which is a higher model in comparison with SE400. The former comes with some extra features. Let us see what extras can you get with SE600 in comparison with SE400.

Brother SE600 Vs SE400 - Major Feature Differences

Design wise, there is little similarity. Both are entirely different machines. In terms of dimensions, Brother SE600 is certainly the bigger machine.

LCD Screen

The location of the screen is different on both machines. SE600 boasts of a slightly larger touch screen and the most important thing to notice is that it has a color display. SE400 on the other hand comes with a slightly smaller touch screen in comparison with SE600, and it is not color. In isolation, I always felt SE400 had a wonderful LCD screen, but after seeing the colored detailing on SE600, I am slightly inclined towards the latter.

USB Connectivity

Even though both machines come with USB connectivity to import designs and machine updates, there is a slight difference in the way they get connected. Brother SE400 comes with a Type B USB port, which means you need a cable to connect it to the computer (the cable is included). SE600 on the other hand, comes with a normal USB port so that you can plug in a USB stick directly. In simple words, Brother SE600 connects directly to the USB stick whereas SE400 connects to the computer via USB cable and not vice versa.

Embroidery Card

Another difference is that Brother SE400 has an embroidery card slot, which is absent on SE600.

Sewing Stitches

Brother SE600 being a higher model, comes with 103 sewing stitches, whereas SE400 has only 67. So as far as regular sewing is concerned, SE600 offers more stitch variety.

Embroidery Designs

SE600 comes with 80 built-in embroidery designs, whereas SE400 has only 70 built-in designs. This is not a huge difference as you can always import designs from the internet, thanks to USB connectivity.

Fonts

SE600 has 6 embroidery lettering fonts and SE400 has 5. So if you plan to do a lot of lettering, SE600 has a slight advantage.

Machine Weight

Brother SE600 being a higher model, is expected to be the heavier of the two. But it is not a huge difference. SE600 is heavier only by 0.66 lbs.

Editor comment

Ease of use and stitch quality wise, both machines are excellent. I always loved the stitch quality of Brother SE400. So I kind of kept that as a benchmark while testing the performance of SE600. I would say, SE600 lived up to my expectations. In fact, I am very much impressed with the stitch quality of SE600.

So, it all comes down to one question. Which machine will you choose? Since Brother SE600 comes with a color screen, USB stick compatibility and few extra built-in stitches, I would say I am slightly inclined towards it. But at the same time, never underestimate the capabilities of SE400. It is one of the best sewing and embroidery combo machines in the market. I am a big fan of SE400 and I personally love it purely because of its features and stitch quality. So there is a dilemma.
