Brother SQ9185 Vs CS6000i Comparison In Detail

Brother SQ9185 and CS6000i have been in the sewing machine market for a while. Both machines have received huge appreciation for their quality and affordability. CS6000i made its name in the entry level category due to its stitch quality and features in an affordable range. SQ9185 is slightly more advanced than CS6000i in terms of features. If you take these two machines individually, they are superstars on their own right. But what we want to know is, which one offers more in comparison?

Brother SQ9185 Vs CS6000i - Major Feature Differences

The design itself is very different. SQ9185 has a kind of 'squarish' design whereas CS6000i is more 'curvaceous'. The position of buttons are also different. Let us have a look at the major feature differences.

LCD Screen

The selected stitch and other stitch settings can be viewed on the LCD screen on both machines. However the screen on Brother CS6000i is not backlit. SQ9185 has a backlit screen which is more easier to read. You still can read the settings pretty well on CS6000i, but in certain lighting conditions SQ9185's backlit screen is better.

Feed System

Brother SQ9185 uses a 7-piece feed system whereas CS6000i uses 6-piece system.

Built-in Stitches

This is where there is a huge difference between SQ9185 and CS6000i. SQ9185 comes with 130 built-in stitches which include 8 one-step buttonholes. CS6000i on the other hand comes with only 60 built-in stitches including 7 one-step buttonholes. So SQ9185 has the upper hand in stitch options.

Monogramming Font

CS6000i does not have a built-in font for monogramming. SQ9185 has one font for basic monogramming.

Machine Weight

Brother SQ9185 is one of the lightest computerized sewing machines you can get. If you go by machine weight, CS6000i is 3.1 lbs heavier than SQ9185. If you are planning to take your machine to sewing classes, it must be a consideration.

Both machines come with a bundle of accessory feet, yet there are some differences in the included accessories. CS6000i comes with an included hard cover, which is not always the case with SQ9185. So the number of accessories included should be verified at the time of purchase.

Machine Dimensions

The machine dimension also varies a little bit. SQ9185 has a dimension of 11.48" x 6.69" x 16.02" and CS6000i has a dimension of 11.4" x 6.7" x 16.1". This is marginal and you won't even notice the difference while sewing.

All other features are given in the comparison table below.

Editor comment

The stitch quality of both machines are excellent. They can easily adjust to different types of fabrics to provide consistent stitches. Brother CS6000i will suit beginners who are looking for an entry level sewing machine that has almost all the features that a beginner want. SQ9185 on the other hand offers more creativity, be it the extra built-in stitches or the built-in monogramming font.
