Janome HD1000 Vs HD3000

Janome HD1000 Vs HD3000 Comparison In Detail

If you are looking for a beginner heavy-duty sewing machine in US, your search may come down to Janome HD1000 and HD3000. We personally admire these two sewing machines for the quality and durability they offer. HD1000 and HD3000 are very similar in features, you can say that HD3000 is more of an upgraded version of HD1000. Both machines ooze quality.

Major Feature Differences Between Janome HD1000 and HD3000

Both are excellent mechanical sewing machines, it has to be said. In this comparison, we are going to have a look at the areas where there is a difference. All other common features are displayed in the table later in this post.

Built-in Stitches

Janome HD3000 scores in the total number of built-in stitches. It has 18 built-in stitches and a 1-step buttonhole. Whereas HD1000 has only 14 built-in stitches and a 4-step buttonhole.

Feed Dog

HD3000 has a 5-piece feed dog when compared to HD1000's 3-piece feed dog. It doesn't really make much of a difference in performance, it is the feed mechanism that counts.

Presser Foot Pressure Adjustment

This is an area where HD3000 scores over HD1000. HD3000 has an option to adjust presser foot pressure. HD1000 on the other hand lacks this feature. Theoretically the purpose of presser foot pressure adjustment is to adjust the way in which the feed dogs and presser foot interact in order to provide the most efficient and consistent movement of fabric. It is the deciding factor governing the regularity in size of stitches, top to bottom fabric matching and thread tension. It used to be a default feature in the past, but now it is only available in advanced sewing machines. You need not worry too much about this feature as you practically can't find any difference in stitch quality, at least between HD1000 and HD3000 (it might be different on other machines).

Bobbin System

Yet another scoring area for HD3000. It comes with a top drop-in bobbin system which adds a lot to the ease of use, especially for beginners. Janome HD1000 features a front loading bobbin, which may be an inconvenience and you won't be able to monitor the thread supply.

Stitch Width And Length

The maximum stitch width on HD1000 is 5mm and on HD3000 it is 6.5mm. Maximum stitch length is the same for both machines, at 4mm.

Hard Cover

HD3000 comes with a hard cover whereas HD1000 has only a dust cover.

Sewing Machine Weight

This is something that you must consider, if you want to take the machine to sewing classes. Being heavy-duty, both machines are heavy but you can manage it, they are not overweight. HD1000 weighs 18.7 pounds and HD3000 weighs 16.8 pounds. There isn't much of a difference.

Accessories

In the accessories department HD3000 comes with additional feet. Adjustable Blind Hem Foot and Sliding Buttonhole Foot are the extras you will get.

Editor comment

Both feature the list of best mechanical sewing machines you can get in US. The quality of stitches are of the highest class. Both are champions of heavy stuffs. Both sews through denim like a knife going through butter. They are built to last and works well with any kind of fabric that you throw at them. To be honest, you can't really tell the difference in performance of these machines.

If ease of use is something that you give importance to, then HD3000 will be a better option. Especially from the point of view of a beginner. If you have some sewing experience behind you, it won't be that difficult to change the bobbin or to make a buttonhole. Then HD1000 will be a good option.
