7 Best Home Sewing Machines For Denim

7 Best Home Sewing Machines For Denim

First of all, let me tell you one thing. If you are looking for a garment factory like machine to sew denim, you will be disappointed. Because you won't find a good one in the home sewing machines range. If you are really into professional denim projects, you will be better off buying an industrial sewing machine. If your job is just to do some hemming or alterations, any medium range home sewing machine should get the job done for you.

Which is the best home sewing machine for denim? The answer is tricky because there aren't many home sewing machines designed exclusively for denim. Here I will be introducing 7 home sewing machines which can handle multiple layers of denim without much trouble.

To sew denim, you need a sewing machine with a powerful motor, heavy-duty construction, right needle and the right thread. All home sewing machines are not good with denim, so you must be picky. There is absolutely no connection between the price and the ability of a machine to sew denim.

Now let us have a look at the list of 7 best home sewing machines for denim, which can be bought in U.S.

#1 - Janome HD3000

This is one of the best sewing machines for denim in the home sewing machines category. It can go through multiple layers of denim with ease. HD3000 is a mechanical sewing machine with 18 built-in stitches, automatic needle threader and one-step buttonhole. Its heavy-duty construction makes it one of the best machines for denim sewing. It is one of the heaviest home sewing machines around. It weighs around 18.7 lbs, which denotes the quality of metal used for construction. You need sturdy machines to sew denim, and HD3000 is one of that kind. It really is one of my favorite machines for sewing denim. You don't need to worry much about the durability factor.

#2 - Janome HD1000

Another machine designed for heavy duty fabrics like denim. This is a slightly lesser model compared to HD3000. HD1000 comes with 14 built-in stitches. This machine is as good as HD3000 when it comes to denim. However it misses out on features like 1-step buttonhole, top drop-in bobbin etc in comparison with HD3000. You can read more about the comparison here.

#3 - Janome 8077

This is the one for those who love computerized sewing machines. Janome 8077 has 30 built-in stitches, automatic needle threader, speed control slider, start/stop button, one-step buttonhole etc. Janome 8077 is one of the best computerized sewing machines for denim. Even though this machine has a strong motor, it doesn't make a lot of noise. The feed system of this machine is exceptional. The motor doesn't struggle with multiple layers of denim.

Conclusion

This concludes the list. In this list, there are computerized sewing machines with lot of features and there are simple mechanical sewing machines. The reason why I included both computerized and mechanical sewing machines is because different people have different requirements even though their primary purpose is to sew denim.

For sewing denim, I personally recommend mechanical sewing machines as they are built to deal with such heavy duty sewing over long periods of time. These are my personal recommendations. You are the one to decide which one is the best for you, I just tried to guide you. Hope it helps.
