Brother DZ1234 Review

Brother DZ1234 Review In Detail

Brother DZ1234 is a flawless serger. It comes with a lot of features and accessories. However 2 thread capability would have been great.

Editor rating

Brother DZ1234 belongs to the Designio series of machines from Brother. This serger is designed for the designer in you. It has both three and four thread configuration. It is capable of sewing at a speed of 1300 stitches/minute. It is free arm convertible, which comes handy while sewing cuffs and sleeves. The color coded threading system makes threading very easy. The stitch width can be adjusted between 4.5mm-7mm. The presser foot pressure can also be adjusted.

Brother DZ1234 has a differential feed ratio of 0.7mm to 2.0mm which provides consistent stitch quality on all kinds of fabrics. You can use standard sewing needles on this serger. It comes with a bunch of accessories as well.

Accessories include

•    Blind hem stitch foot
•    Gathering foot
•    Piping foot
•    2 sets of starter thread

Stitch options on this serger include 4 thread overlock, 3 thread overlock, narrow hem, rolled hem, and ribbon lock stitches. It has 22 built-in stitches. The built-in storage compartment is good enough for storing all your accessories. One nice thing on this serger is the safety feature that prevents operation when the front cover is open. The work area is brightly lit by LEDs. It comes with a 25 year limited warranty.

Ease of Use

The ease of use is something that really impressed us. You will feel comfortable using this serger, even if you haven't used a serger before. Threading this machine is a walk in the park, you just need to follow the marked instructions. The biggest advantage of Brother DZ1234 is that it uses standard sewing needles. It is a real money saver, you don't need to spend lot of money on special needles. The overlocking function is excellent. It sews through denim, fleece, swim suit and stretch fabric equally well. The stitch quality is of the highest standard.

Another good feature is that you can easily disengage the fabric cutting knives and you can easily move the upper knife out of the way, if you don't want to trim the fabric. You can easily engage them back in position when needed. It is a quieter machine, when compared to others in the same price range.

Drawbacks

We had a hard time finding a limitation. Probably you can say that the starter thread that comes with this machine is not that great, you will be better of buying some high quality threads. Also, 2 thread capability would have done a world of good.

Pros

•    High quality stitches
•    Option to engage and disengage trimming knives
•    Easy threading system
•    Easy to use
•    Highly rated
•    Lot of features
•    Value for money
•    Inexpensive

Cons

•    Not much
