Brother GX37 Review In Detail

Brother GX37 comes with a good variety of features. Its features make the beginners' life easy. It has good stitch quality as well.

Editor rating

Brother GX37 is a beginner sewing machine. It is a mechanical sewing machine (not computerized). It comes with 37 built-in stitches which includes a good variety of utility and decorative stitches. It also has a one-step buttonhole for easy buttonhole making. It has an automatic needle threader to save eye strain. Another thing I loved about Brother GX37 is that it has a top drop-in bobbin, which makes it so much easier to change the bobbin when the thread runs out. All 37 stitches are displayed in front of the machine and the stitch can be selected by turning the dial. The dial is of reasonable size as well.

Brother GX37 can sew at a maximum speed of 850 stitches/minute, which is very impressive considering the fact that even more advanced computerized sewing machines come with similar 850 stitches/minute motor. So there is no shortage of sewing power. The maximum stitch length available is 5mm and stitch width is 7mm, both can be adjusted by dial. I really like the reverse sewing lever, it is of good size and you can easily engage it.

You can sew cuffs and sleeves easily as GX37 is free arm convertible. An accessory storage compartment is built-in to store important accessories. There is a manual thread cutter on the side, so that you don’t need to search for scissors every time you want to cut the thread. There is an LED work light which illuminates the work space quite well.

Brother GX37 weighs 10.14 lbs which is very lightweight for a mechanical sewing machine. The advantage is that you can easily carry the machine around especially if you attend sewing classes. GX37 comes with a bunch of handy accessories including 6 sewing feet. The accessory package itself is of good value.

Ease of Use

Though the machine is lightweight, the overall build quality of GX37 is quite good. It is very easy to set up and thread. I think the USP of this sewing machine is its 37 built-in stitches. In the segment it is in, it is not very common to find machines with this many built-in stitches. With GX37 you can sew different types of fabrics with good results. Since GX37 is a beginner machine, it is suited more for sewing light-medium weight fabrics. But you can sew denim and the stitch quality is good. However, I will not recommend sewing multiple layers of very thick fabrics.

Drawbacks

For the segment it is in, I can’t find any fault with Brother GX37. It is an absolute superstar.

Pros

  • Good variety of stitches
  • Automatic needle threader
  • Top drop-in bobbin
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Accessory package

Cons

  • Not much

Review Verdict

Brother GX37 is a well packaged beginner sewing machine. It has good features, it is easy to use and it is compact. In my opinion, it has got all the aspects covered as far as a beginner machine is concerned. Even intermediate users will find it very useful.
