EverSewn Hero Review In Detail

EverSewn Hero is feature packed and its stitch quality is quite good. It has USB port, built-in memory and 400+ stitches, but it misses out on an automatic thread cutter.

Editor rating

When it comes to affordable sewing and embroidery combo machines there aren't many options to choose from. Chicago based EverSewn has come up with a 'Hero' to explore this niche. Hero comes with 400+ stitches including block style and script style alphabet patterns. Another great thing that EverSewn has done is that they have provided direct selection buttons for most commonly used stitches. So that you don't need to search among 400 odd stitches.

The automatic needle threader eliminates eye strain. Top drop-in bobbin makes bobbin changing easy. The clear bobbin cover is unique in the sense that it pops up really quickly for you. The machine will even warn you if you are running out of bobbin thread or if upper thread is broken.

The maximum stitch width available is 7mm. The maximum embroidery area on EverSewn Hero is 110mm x 170mm. The machine comes with a single hoop of size 110mm x 170mm which approximately converts to 4.3" x 6.6" in inches (The reason why I converted it into inches is because most machines in the market display the hoop size in inches. This will make the comparison much more easier).

The LCD screen on EverSewn Hero is of decent size and you can view all the settings clearly. The USB port to import designs is provided on the embroidery unit. You can combine patterns and store it in the machine memory for later use. There are 4 modules of memory available with each module capable of holding up to 20 units of stitches.

The speed control on EverSewn Hero is done by turning the dial. We were used to speed control slider on most machines and a dial for the same gives you a different experience. I won't say one method is better over the other as it comes down mainly to personal preferences. Presser foot pressure and tension adjustment dials are provided under the lid.

EverSewn Hero can sew at a speed of 800 stitches/min. The speed adjustment dial works only for regular sewing. In the case of embroidery speed, you can choose 350spm or 600spm (default is 600spm). I am very much impressed with the embroidery speed, it is one of the fastest in the segment.

Ease of Use

There is a slight learning curve. Techsavy people can easily figure out the working and settings, others might require some time, which is why I always insist on reading the user manual thoroughly. Once you get through that initial learning curve, everything else is super smooth. The available patterns and designs have good variety. It is easy to import designs as well. Embroidery quality is good even over denim. The overall stitch quality for regular sewing is also very good. The machine is easy to thread. The hoop size of 110mm x 170mm is good enough for home use but for professionals who do large projects regularly might require bigger area.

Drawbacks

EverSewn Hero can read only .zhs files. So all other design file formats need to be converted to .zhs using the conversion software available for free on the EverSewn website. One downside is that this software runs only on Windows OS (This is at the time of writing this review, I am not sure whether it will support Mac users in future, so you are requested to check compatibility at the time of purchase).

I expected an automatic thread cutter, it seems I have to live with a manual one. However, it is not a deal breaker for me, but still a useful feature to have.

Pros

•    Feature packed
•    Stitch quality
•    USB port
•    Built-in memory
•    Good selection of patterns

Cons

•    No Mac support for conversion software
•    No automatic thread cutter

Review Verdict

For me EverSewn Hero is a complete package. It has the features and the stitch quality is also very good.
