Janome DC2014 Review In Detail

Janome DC2014 is a quality computerized sewing machine. It is good on multiple layers. However, it misses out on a sewing start/stop button.

Editor rating

Janome DC2014 belongs to the 'DC' series of limited edition sewing machines rolled out by Janome every year. It all started in 2010 with the Janome DC2010, from there on, Janome introduced a new model in DC series every year (with DC2015 being one of the latest models in that DC series). The USP of 'DC' series machines from Janome is the quality and performance. All DC machines now have very good reputation. Only few features differentiate each DC series model. The machine on our hand is the DC2014 which was released back in 2014, it's been a few years but still it is one of the popular computerized models from Janome.

Janome DC2014 comes with a hard cover. The carry handle easily pops in and out. It is not a lightweight machine though (weighs 18.2lbs) but the handle makes it easy to carry. The weight comes from the heavy-duty metal parts used in the machine. It is equipped with a speed control slider for setting the maximum sewing speed. Janome DC2014 comes with 50 built-in stitches,  which includes all the essential stitches needed by a beginner. Built-in stitches include 3 one-step buttonholes as well.

DC2014 comes with a bunch of accessories which you can store away in the accessory storage compartment. Once you take off the storage compartment attachment, the machine can be used for free arm sewing. Janome DC2014 has decent lighting system on board. Lighting is good enough for sewing in low external lighting conditions. It also has an automatic needle threader, which makes it super easy to thread the machine. It features memorized needle up/down as well.

Janome DC2014 comes with a manual thread cutter on the side. There are separate buttons for locking stitches and reverse stitching. This sewing machine features a top drop-in bobbin system with clear cover. All the stitch settings are displayed on the LCD screen. Stitch width and length are automatically set for you, however they can be adjusted using the push-buttons. Recommended presser foot for each stitch type is displayed on the stitch chart itself.

Ease of Use

First time users may require couple of attempts to get used to the automatic needle threader. It is super easy to change the presser foot, it pops on and off quite easily. Janome DC2014 goes through cotton and denim equally well. When tested, it went through 6 layers of denim with ease. Going slow on thick seams will provide better results. While sewing different types of fabrics, make sure that you use the right type of needle. The stitch quality is very impressive. Even though this machine has a strong motor inside, it operates quietly.

Janome DC2014 is an uncomplicated sewing machine. You don't need an hour's lecture to get started. It comes with a wonderfully written user manual (something that a beginner will always love). The build quality of this machine is excellent. Janome has used quality plastic for all external parts.

The foot pedal that comes with Janome DC2014 is slightly on the lighter side, which makes it slide around the floor.

Janome DC2014 has no sewing start/stop button. What this means is that, even though you can set the maximum speed limit using the speed control slider, you still need to use the foot pedal to sew, you can't sew without the foot pedal.

No font for basic monogramming.
