Singer 7469Q Review In Detail

Singer 7469Q is a good quality quilting machine. It has some nice features and also comes with a good bunch of quilting accessories. However I would have loved to see a sewing start/stop button and speed control slider.

Editor rating

Singer has introduced several models in the Confidence category and 7469Q is one that targets quilters. Singer 7469Q is an electronic quilting and sewing machine. The machine comes with 98 built-in stitches (8 Essential, 6 Stretch, 77 Decorative and 7 Buttonholes). Out of the 7 buttonhole stitches, 6 are one-step and the remaining one is an endless buttonhole. Now, endless buttonhole lets you make buttonholes with infinitely long sides. This is a feature that you won't normally find on sewing machines in this segment. So kudos to Singer for providing that.

As always, Singer has packed this machine with some common features that you normally find on other sewing machines in this segment. Automatic needle threader, top drop-in bobbin, programmable needle up/down, drop feed, free arm etc are some of them. 2 LED bulbs illuminate the work space and it is decent. Singer 7469Q comes with automatic tension, so that you don't need to adjust the tension every time you change the fabric type. However, if you feel that the machine is not doing its job, you can always adjust the tension manually. A dial is provided for it.

The extra-high presser foot lift provides enough clearance for multiple layers of fabric. Singer 7469Q can deliver 750 stitches/min. I won't say this is the fastest but it does a very good job. 13 needle positions are available on this machine. Being a quilting machine, 7469Q comes with an impressive set of accessories. The extra wide table gives you ample room to work on larger projects. Apart from the standard foot set, you will also get quilting accessories like

•    Darning & Embroidery Foot
•    1/4 Inch Foot
•    Open-toe Foot
•    Even Feed Foot

7469Q weighs around 16 lbs. It is not lightweight and this adds to its stability at high speeds. A carry handle is also provided. The machine comes with 25 year limited warranty cover.

Ease of Use

The LCD screen of 7469Q is pretty basic and only displays the pattern number. You can easily adjust the stitch width and length using sliders in front of the machine (If you want to customize the automatic settings). Small LED light on the left side of the sliders will show you the best settings that will work with the stitch selected. When the LED is green, you can assume that your settings are perfect. The foot pedal is nice and responsive. The machine operates quietly as well.

One thing I really liked about Singer 7469Q is that, it has direct stitch selection buttons for most commonly used stitches. Not many machines have this feature.Programmable needle up/down is another good feature that quilters will love or you can say that it is a must have for quilters. Threading Singer 7469Q is easy, if you follow the numbered thread path. Automatic tension means you don't need to worry about thread tension anymore.

The push button reverse option enables you to reinforce the seam in the beginning and at the end. You can easily cut the thread using the manual thread cutter provided at the side of the sewing machine. Another thread cutter is provided near the needle. The stitches on Singer 7469Q come out perfectly straight. The stitches are consistent and have good finish. The performace over multiple layers of denim is also quite good.

Drawbacks

One thing that I missed on Singer 7469Q is the ability to sew without using the foot controller.

The presser foot pressure is automatic. An option to manually adjust the pressure would have been great, but for beginners the automatic setting would just work fine.

Pros

•    Easy to use
•    Good variety of stitches
•    Good set of quilting accessories
•    Perfect stitches

Cons

•    Can't sew without foot controller

Review Verdict

Overall, Singer 7469Q will be a good choice for you, if you are looking for a good quality quilting machine. It is a good value for money product.
