Singer 8060 Review

Singer 8060 Review In Detail

Singer 8060 is absolutely feature loaded. It is right up there with Singer 9960 in stitch quality. We are really impressed with it.

Editor rating

Singer 8060 is very similar to the ever popular Singer 9960.  Singer 8060 is a new kid in the block. However, it is not a whole lot different from Singer 9960 in terms of features. But being a new machine, you can expect latest versions of software to be included. Singer 8060 is a computerized sewing machine aimed at intermediate to advanced sewers. The machine comes with 600 built-in stitches including 13 one-step buttonholes. There are 5 fonts for basic monogramming. Monograms can be done at 5mm stitch width. The automatic needle threader assists you in threading. The threading instructions are marked on the machine itself. Singer says you can thread 8060 in 6 seconds. Top drop-in bobbin with clear cover is very user-friendly. You can always keep an eye on the bobbin thread supply.

The LCD screen is where you can view all the stitch settings. The LCD screen of Singer 8060 is of decent size but it is not a touch screen which you get on models like Singer 9985. The screen displays the selected stitch, stitch length and width, recommended presser foot etc. The screen brightness is adjustable. The maximum stitch width available on the machine is 7mm. The stitch width and length are set automatically, which you can customize if you want. In addition to automatic needle threader, Singer 8060 also comes with an automatic thread cutter, which cuts the remaining thread with the touch of a button. You can sew without using the foot pedal. You just need to use the start/stop button and speed control slider to adjust the sewing speed. We found that slower speed brings the best result, especially when you are familiarizing with the machine. The machine can sew really fast as well, thanks to the 850 stitches/min motor.

The programmable needle up/down button is a blessing for quilters. It literally works like an extra hand while quilting. Singer 8060 comes with the latest box feed mechanism instead of historic arc motion. This provides consistent feeding. For sewing cuffs and sleeves, the machine is free arm convertible. You can mirror image and elongate select stitches with just the press of a button. The automatic locking stitch button can be used to secure the stitches to prevent unraveling.

Ease of Use

Singer 8060 is very good on stitch quality. It lives up to the expectations, especially when you have 9960 as the benchmark. The variety of stitches are quite good. The machine performs very well on multiple layers of denim. The machine adjusts very quickly to different types of fabrics. It has a premium feel to it. Performance wise, Singer 8060 is very similar to 9960. So there are not many things to worry about.

Review Verdict

Singer 8060 is as good as 9960. We couldn't find many faults with this machine. Singer 8060 is also available in a 'Fashion Bundle' which comes with couple of extra accessories (flower stitch attachment, gathering foot, non-stick foot).
