Singer SEQS-6000 Review In Detail

Singer SEQS-6000 is feature packed and has a large embroidery area. It comes with 2 hoops as well. However, the machine requires a slight learning curve.

Editor rating

I am always a big fan of Sewing & Embroidery Combo machines. The main reason is that, you are literally having a 2 in 1 machine that can do both regular sewing and embroidery. You don't need to spend extra money on a separate sewing or embroidery machine. SEQS-6000 is one such machine from Singer. It can do both. This machine is very similar to Singer's own XL-400. In fact they have identical features. XL-400 has been pretty popular in US, so let us see how SEQS-6000 goes.

Embroidery Features

Singer SEQS-6000 comes with 125 built-in embroidery designs. Two hoops are included, a large 10" x 6" and a small 4" x 4". Even though the maximum embroidery area is 10" x 6", you can do larger designs up to 18 1/2" x 11", thanks to the multihoop capability. Now, this is really helpful for professionals who tend to work on larger projects on a regular basis.

Normally, you would expect an LCD screen on computerized machines, but SEQS-6000 does not have a screen. Actually, your laptop acts as the screen for all your embroidery editing. This is done with the help of an included editing software. I really love this type of editing rather than doing it on a puny built-in LCD screen on the machine. Here I can view all the settings crisp and clear on my laptop screen. One downside of this set up is that, you need your laptop connected to the machine, every time you need to embroider.

SEQS-6000 comes with a good variety of  built-in embroidery designs. If you want more, you can always download more from There are some good looking Christmas designs on that website. The included software can read FHE, XXX, JEF, CHE, HUS, PES, DST, SHV, PEC, EXP, VIP, PCS, PSW and SEW files. For monogramming, the machine comes with 5 fonts.

Sewing Features

Singer SEQS-6000 comes with 30 built-in stitches which include 6 Basic, 5 Stretch, 17 Decorative and 2 One-step buttonhole stitches. The maximum stitch width available is 7mm. Sewing start/stop and speed control slider lets you sew without the foot pedal. In addition to the reverse sewing button, there is a locking stitch button to secure the stitches at the beginning and end. The programmable needle up/down button is handy while pivoting.

Drop feed is available for free-motion works. The machine comes with two accessory trays which provide enough storage space for all your accessories. One is in the removable extension table and the other in the embroidery unit. The extra high presser foot lifter is handy while dealing with multiple layers of fabric. Top drop-in bobbin with clear cover is very easy to use.

The automatic needle threader saves eye strain. 6 LED bulbs illuminate the work space. Independent bobbin winding motor lets you wind the bobbin while sewing or embroidering. The presser foot sensor alerts you with an error message and buzzer when presser foot is not down. The machine comes with 25 year limited warranty.

Ease of Use

The best thing I liked about Singer SEQS-6000 is the larger work space. Be it sewing or embroidery, a large work space gives you all the confidence in the world to work with large projects. There is a slight learning curve associated with this machine, which is understandable. You will be better of going through some video tutorials on YouTube or something. Some patience will do real good, that's when you start exploring the capabilities of this machine.

I really like the 3D realistic view, which shows the stitches on the computer screen exactly as they will sew. You can even print it out. The built-in tutorials in the software is capable of answering some of your general questions (not all).

The included software is only compatible with Windows XP or higher, including Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 (Windows 8 requires software update available at So if you are a Mac user, you need to side load Windows.

There is no automatic thread cutter.

Review Verdict

According to me, Singer SEQS-6000 is not a machine that you can start having fun right away. You need to spend some time to learn its functions. Once you get that right, you will get to see some quality results.

You can call SEQS-6000 a value for money package compared to competitors, because it comes with 2 hoops plus multi-hooping, larger embroidery area and last but not the least, the sewing features.
