Singer SEQS-6700 Review In Detail

Singer SEQS-6700 always attracted me with its features. However it is a machine that requires a learning curve. But once you go past it, you will see great results.

Editor rating

Singer SEQS-6700 is a Futura Quartet branded machine. It is a sewing and embroidery combo machine. SEQS-6700 is an advanced sewing machine by all means. The machine needs some investment, so all we want to know is whether it is worth the investment.

Now, Singer SEQS-6700 Futura machine is a huge unit (take my word for it). The arm length to the right of the needle is 210 mm, which is more than enough for accommodating large projects. Start/stop button and speed control slider are provided for sewing without the foot controller. The speed control slider starts sewing slowly for the first few stitches and then it picks up the speed fairly quickly. The slider can be used as a sewing speed controller for sewing without the foot controller and as a top speed limiter while using the foot controller.

LCD screen though slightly small for my liking, displays a variety of information like selected  stitch,  an image of the stitch, and stitch width and stitch length settings for regular sewing and when you switch to embroidery, the screen displays relevant information.

The bobbin is easy to load top drop-in type and it has a clear cover to see through. The clear cover will give you an idea about how much bobbin thread is remaining. The electronic twin needle function limits the stitch width when using a twin needle on decorative stitches (This is to prevent needle breakage). To enable twin needle sewing, you just need to press the twin needle button and the machine will ready itself for twin needle sewing. The modifications include limiting the stitch width and skipping stitches not suitable for twin needle sewing while turning the stitch selection dial.

The machine has drop feed as well. The extra high presser foot lifter is always handy while sewing multiple layers of fabric. Singer SEQS-6700 has 6 LED lights which illuminate the work space quite well. You really don't need exterior lighting while sewing. There are two built-in spool pins (horizontal and vertical thread delivery really comes handy during twin needle sewing). The USB cord that comes with this machine is pretty long, which is a good thing (the machine won't work with other USB cords).

The machine does have a retractable carry handle, but its heavy weight doesn't allow you to pick it up that easily. Storage space is plenty on this machine. Machine accessories can be stored in the extension table compartment. There is another compartment in the embroidery unit. There is a dedicated locking stitch button to secure the stitches. It stitches 4 tiny stitches to tie off sewing.

Embroidery Features

The maximum hoop size is 10" x 6". This is really handy for larger projects. A smaller 4" x 4" hoop is also included. What makes this machine different from other embroidery machines is the ability to do multihooping. You can do designs up to 18 ½ x 11 inches in size. 125 embroidery designs are built-in. 20 fonts are available for monogramming. In addition to this, the included HyperFont software can convert all TrueType fonts on your PC into embroidery.

Sewing Features

There are 215 built-in sewing stitches which includes 6 one-step buttonholes. There is an endless buttonhole as well. 7mm is the maximum stitch width available on this machine. Automatic tension is another feature. The programmable needle up/down button makes pivoting easy. Automatic needle threader makes threading easy. You can cut the remaining thread with just the push of a button, thanks to the automatic thread cutter. The automatic thread cutter cuts both top and bobbin threads. In the Automated Thread Cutting mode, the machine will automatically cut the threads every time the machine stops at the end of a color block. In total, there are 3 thread cutters on Singer SEQS-6700. One is automatic and two are manual.

There are a variety of editing softwares included. This really adds another dimension to this wonderful machine which is already packed with features. You will get AutoPunch™, HyperFont™ and Advanced Editing. AutoPunch™ converts clip art, logos and self-created designs into embroidery. HyperFont™ converts all TrueType fonts on your PC into embroidery. Advanced Editing allows you to edit existing embroidery designs

What you can do with these softwares and editing options

•    Combine multiple designs into a single design file
•    Embroidery design rotation in one degree increment
•    Custom colors for threads
•    Design resizing
•    Horizontal or vertical flipping of designs
•    Realistic design preview (much like the print preview on computers)
•    Watch built-in tutorials

The variety of accessory feet included is pretty impressive. You will get a huge package of standard and value added bonus accessories.

Standard accessory feet include

•    Embroidery Foot
•    All Purpose Foot
•    Zipper Foot
•    Buttonhole Foot with Underplate
•    Blind Hem Foot
•    Satin Stitch Foot
•    Button Sewing Foot

Value added accessory feet include

•    Cording Foot
•    1/4” Foot
•    Even Feed Foot
•    Open Toe Foot
•    Invisible Zipper Foot
•    Darning/Freehand Embroidery Foot

Now, this is a pretty impressive set of accessory feet, which really adds to the value of the machine.

Ease of Use

The build quality of Singer SEQS-6700 is pretty good, which is evident from the weight of the machine. It doesn't look flimsy at all. Being an advanced sewing machine with so many features, there is a definite learning curve to it , especially while using embroidery features. You will be better of starting with scrap materials and then moving on to your real projects. Regular sewing is very good and it sews excellent stitches. There is enough variety of sewing stitches to choose from. You will get 10 basic, 6 stretch, 192 decorative and 7 buttonhole stitches.

The built-in embroidery designs include some nice animals and flower patterns. The large and small hoop sizes cover most type of projects. One thing I really liked about this machine is that you can see how much embroidery stitching is left, on the LCD screen. Singer SEQS-6700 is reasonably quiet when compared to most of its competitors. Thread breaking and nesting issues in most cases will be operator error (as I have already pointed out that it requires a learning curve). Watch some YouTube videos for help. Since the machine comes with computer connectivity, you can import embroidery designs from the internet.

The sewing part of this machine is absolutely wonderful. The machine handles thick fabrics quite well, so no problems in that part. The embroidery quality is also excellent. The designs come out nice and clean.

Included software that comes with Singer SEQS-6700  won't work with Mac computers unless you side load Windows on it. Software is compatible with Windows computers only and not all versions of Windows itself are compatible. So you are requested to check Singer's website for latest information regarding software compatibility. Also the software interface could be more user-friendly.

USB stick is not compatible. The machine needs to be connected with a computer/laptop via USB cable once the embroidery arm is attached. Computer is not required while doing regular sewing though.

No hard cover included.

•    Large hoops for large projects
•    Feature packed
•    Multi-hooping ability
•    Additional thread holder
•    Computer connectivity

•    No hard cover
•    No Mac support

Review Verdict

Singer SEQS-6700 always had the features, the only thing that I was worried about was how good it will sew and embroider. Yes, you need to be patient to get past that learning curve. Once you are through, you will get to see some pretty amazing results.
